Tara Leigh Scott, PA
Tara Leigh Scott is a native New Yorker born in Bayside, Queens. She was raised in the mid-Hudson Valley town of New Windsor. Ms. Scott chose to enter St. John’s University in 1990. During her four-year tenure, Ms. Scott was awarded an academic scholarship and belonged to many prestigious honor societies, including the National Criminal Justice Honor Society. Ms. Scott was awarded the Kevin P. Castel Award for the most promising young attorney in 1994.
Ms. Scott is a member of Theta Phi Alpha and was SJU’s delegate to the annual Theta National Convention. To fulfill her minor in International Relations, Ms. Scott spent her junior year at the Technical University of Budapest in Hungary. After course completions, Ms. Scott lived in Amsterdam for several months and traveled extensively in eastern and western Europe prior to returning to St. John’s to complete her senior year. During her last year, Ms. Scott interned with the Honorable Justice William Friedman of the New York State Appellate Division. Along with her distinguished academics in “Criminal Justice”, her major, and involvement with the university, Ms. Scott was selected for inclusion in “Who’s Who in American Colleges and Universities”. Ms. Scott graduated in 1994, at the top of her class, and received the accolade of Summa Cum Laude.
Ms. Scott selected the University of Miami School of Law and her life path had been chosen. During this time, Ms. Scott attended the University College of London and studied international human rights issues. She co-authored an amicus curiae brief filed in the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals on behalf of a local human rights organization in Atlanta, Georgia. Ms. Scott was a member of the Phi Alpha Delta law fraternity. Ms. Scott received her Juris Doctorate Cum Laude from the University of Miami School of Law in 1997.
Since graduation Ms. Scott has specialized in civil and criminal defense litigation. She has an extensive background in Admiralty and Maritime law and personal injury defense. Ms. Scott practiced in Seattle, Washington working with a telecommunication company during the “dot com” boom. Ms. Scott is knowledgeable in criminal matters of a white collar nature, drug trafficking, theft crimes, DUI’s, domestic violence, sex offenses, violation of probation issues, and post conviction relief and criminal appeals. Ms. Scott also handles family law cases involving divorce, paternity, and time sharing issues.
